MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Firefighters from across southern Africa, including Mossel Bay, are competing in the 10th Toughest Firefighter Alive (TFA) Challenge in the hopes of securing the coveted title of Toughest Firefighter.
The competition began at the Garden Route Mall in George on Thursday 9 October and will conclude today, 11 October.
Competitors participating are from South Africa, Botswana and Namibia.
Two male teams and one women's team are representing Mossel Bay at this year's competition, as well as three individual competitors: Nadia Jacobus-Julies, Thandisizwe Makrola and Siphokazi Yabo.
The participants are firefighters of the Mossel Bay Fire, Rescue and Disaster Management Services.
During last year's TFA Challenge, Makrola was named the 3rd Best Male (Toughest Firefighter Alive Overall) as well as 1st Best Male in his age category of 35 to 39.
This year, he hopes to secure the top spot.
Mossel Bay previously hosted the TFA in 2022, 2023 and 2024.
The TFA challenge includes high-intensity obstacle courses, rescue simulations, the Mini Toughest Firefighter Alive Challenge and the TFA-Dräger Youth Challenge, all designed to test physical and mental endurance while fostering camaraderie among fire services.
